College Celebrates Black History
Community activist JKelly Walker gave the keynote address during the Black History Month Celebration held Tuesday on the Rocky Mount campus.

On Tuesday, February 27, local community activist JKelly Walker provided the keynote address to an audience on the Rocky Mount campus.
On Wednesday, February 28, Jessie Hinton, retired colonel, US Army, gave the keynote address at the Tarboro campus celebration.
Both speakers spoke from their personal perspectives on the national theme for Black History Month, 鈥淎frican Americans in Times of War.鈥 Both are veterans and discussed those who had paved the way for them, their individual service experiences, being minorities in the armed forces, and the knowledge they gained from their enlistment.
Faculty, staff, and students presented information about the history of Black History Month. Employees and students also performed musical selections.
The Black History Month events were sponsored by the Student Government Association and EMPAC (Empowering Males with a Purpose to Achieve and Celebrate), the College鈥檚 male minority mentoring program.
